Turkey and France relations
The bilateral trade volume between Turkey and France stood at 14 billion 657 million USD in 2017, which corresponds to an increase of 9.4 percent compared to the year before (Turkish exports 6 billion 586 million US Dollars; imports 8 billion 71 million US Dollars).
Main export items from Turkey to France are automobile, accessories and parts for land vehicles, transportation vehicles, television receivers, confection, fattening and agricultural products, whilst main items of Turkey’s imports from France are flight and space industries products, machineries, vehicles, parts and accessories for motor vehicles and medicaments.
In the period of 2002-2017, total amount of direct investments from France to Turkey is 6 billion 957 million USD. This figure is 217 million USD from Turkey to France in the same period.
In 2017, 578,524 thousand French tourists visited Turkey.
French–Turkish relations cover a long period from the 16th century to the present, starting with the alliance established between Francis I and Suleiman the Magnificent. Relations remained essentially friendly during a period of nearly three centuries, with the resumption of intense contacts from the reign of Louis XIV. Relations became more complex with the invasion of the Ottoman territory of Egypt by Napoleon I in 1798, and the dawn of the modern era.
